This will involve a number of sports where skill development and application will be the focus during the first half of each summer school day. The sports will be selected so that they meet students’ needs. We will survey the students in the near future to ascertain which sports they would prefer to take part in.

^ Irish Dancing

Irish Dancing 4

Spend your summer learning Irish dancing!

Irish dancing is an energetic and challenging form of dancing, which provides the children with great exercise and fun experiences to lively music.
During the course dancers will work with basic steps and coordination exercises, leading up to a light choreography.

Dancers need no previous experience with Irish dancing. All you need to do is to bring gym clothes and an interest in learning new steps.

^ Sport

The summer sports programme is designed to give the participants a chance to show, improve or maybe uncover talents and skills in a number of different activities. During the programme the participants will all do Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer, but also be given the choice between other sports and activities such as Badminton, Hockey, Rugby, Touch-Football, Ultimate-Frisbee, 'tag rugby', modified cricket games, Danish Rounders and others.

All days will include 2 different activities for all participants. The activities can take place indoors as well as outdoors, so it is very important to bring both indoor and outdoor shoes.
The weather in Denmark is never very reliable so warmer clothes for outdoor activities might be needed. No matter whether we are indoor or outdoor, we plan to have a good time being active for the full hour and a half, so bringing a water-bottle for re-hydration is strongly recommended.

^ Introduction to Danish

The Copenhagen International School is pleased to offer Danish for Beginners. This is primarily an introduction to the language, where we integrate all four language skills (speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing) into beginner’s lessons. While in class, students develop speaking skills through dialogue, role-play and interview techniques.

^ Intermediate Danish

As an extension to the above described Beginners Course, the Copenhagen International School will offer an Intermediate Danish Course. The course integrates all four language skills (speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing) into the lessons. Students will be encouraged to exchange experiences and thoughts, and relate events, and work with different media sources. Students will work independently, in pairs, and in groups.

^ GeoCatching

This is a fun and exciting activity which combines physical activity with technology. GeoCaching is a high-tech treasure hunt involving the use of a GPS to locate hidden container (caches).
Students will have the opportunity to create their own caches as well as find other caches which are located throughout the greater Copenhagen area.

^ Fencing

Learn How to Fence!

GETTING STARTED
You can start fencing matter how young or old you are! Depending on your age, there are different ways to start.

New fencers are taught the basics of footwork and distance control, offense, defense, and the fundamentals of scoring and refereeing. Simple bouting is introduced about halfway through each course, and students will have enough knowledge by the end of the course to participate in electric fencing bouts.

Participants are requested to dress appropriately for the activity.

Julien Pillet James Williams (L) of the United States and Julien Pillet of France compete in the men's team sabre fencing gold medal match at the Fencing Hall of National Convention Center on Day 9 of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on August 17, 2008 in Beijing, China.

^ Kayaking and Sailing

We are blessed to be located close to the coast in Hellerup. Coupled with the month of summer it seems fitting that we identify some water sports to undertake.

Danish

I am hopeful we can locate a suitable facility shortly. The students will be required to be competent swimmers, and will have to fulfill a swimming test. The focus of the activity will be for students to learn introductory sailing and kayaking skills.
